Is Metformin (medication to treat diabetes) the first anti-aging drug?

Metformin is not currently recognized as the anti-aging drug. While metformin has been studied for its potential anti-aging effects, it is primarily used as a medication for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

Some researchers believe that metformin may have anti-aging effects due to its ability to activate AMPK, a protein that helps regulate cellular metabolism and promote cellular repair. Additionally, metformin has been shown to improve certain age-related conditions, such as cardiovascular disease and cancer.

However, more research is needed to fully understand the potential anti-aging effects of metformin and its long-term safety in healthy individuals. At this time, there is no widely accepted “anti-aging drug,” and individuals should consult with their healthcare provider before taking any medication for anti-aging purposes.
